Welcome back

It's been a great summer, and a good rest. Now we're looking forward to another busy and constructive year.

We miss you when you're not there...

Halifax District PTA meets at 7:30 on the 3rd Monday of every month in the library at Oxford St. School. Anyone can attend and participate, the only restriction is one vote per member school or organization.

Nominations, please

The executive should include representatives from the four main quadrants of the city. It's time to start considering whether any of those wonderful workers from your PTA should be nominated for one of these positions.

We will also be looking for committee chairs to coordinate action on some of the priorities identified for 1995/96. Time to start thinking about it...

Priorities for 1995/96

Halifax Education Foundation

The Halifax Education Foundation grew out of the "Innovative Approaches to Funding and Resources" Budget Committee formed by the Halifax District PTA two years ago, and developed into a joint Halifax District School Board / Halifax District PTA initiative. It was recently registered as a Society in the province of Nova Scotia, and is in the process of obtaining registration with Revenue Canada, as a registered charity.

Come to a District PTA meeting, and learn more about it.

On the subject of PTA development...

...we recently purchased a copy of "Board Basics for Volunteers", a video training package produced by the United Way and TV Ontario. It includes materials for five separate facilitator-led workshops.

If you are interested in helping to put on these workshops, or would like to arrange to participate in one, please call Sheila McGinn at 443-8781.

Sex Education

MITV will be presenting a discussion of sex education in our schools on their noon-hour show September 28th. We've been invited to send a participant. Come to the September 18th meeting, where we will be discussing this invitation.

Come visit us on the 'Net.

We're still "under construction", but we've registered as an Information Provider on the Chebucto Freenet. Watch for us, we'll be in the "Education and Libraries" section under "Associations and Other Educational Resources".

A tip of the hat to the Metro Community Access Network Society for making this wonderful resource available to us.

If you don't have a computer at home, visit your local library. You'll find an amazing community resource there waiting for you.

And if you're intimidated by it all, let your child be your teacher.
